In this Colon Massage for Constipation article, I’m going to review the online abdominal and colon massage for constipation and explain why it doesn’t work based on colon anatomy.

Have you searched for “colon massage for relief from constipation”? My clients showed me routines they’ve learned online, and it’s always the same bad information. This misinformation is spread by non-abdominal massage therapists. They recommend an oversimplified abdominal massage. The techniques are from online sources, including abdominal massage in a clockwise circle, an upside-down U, or the “I Love You” technique. These principles show a lack of basic anatomy knowledge.

I want to clarify: the I Love You oversimplified colon massage for constipation won’t do much to alleviate constipation. I’m not saying self-abdominal massage is complex; it doesn’t need to be. The point is, there is a better way.

I’ve seen “doctors” or other self-proclaimed experts on YouTube instruct how to massage a colon without a clear understanding of where the colon actually is. The colon isn’t in a circle or upside-down U. It’s not right beneath the surface. Different areas of the colon are at different depths, and different techniques work for various sections of the colon. The transverse colon doesn’t run straight across the upper belly—sometimes, it dips below the navel!

Watch the 1-minute video below to understand why common, oversimplified techniques for abdominal colon massage aren’t effective for constipation.
