What Causes Acid Reflux, AKA Heartburn?
Have you improved your diet, chewed your food better, and ruled out H Pylori overgrowth, but still have acid reflux, AKA heartburn? Did you know that your uterine position could cause acid reflux? When the uterus is retroverted, meaning it is tipped back toward the rectum, the small intestines can descend over time and occupy the space where the uterus should be. Because the small intestine is connected to the stomach, which is connected to the esophagus, the downward drag on the stomach decreases the mobility of the gastroesophageal zone, which can eventually degrade the tone of the gastroesophageal zone resulting in acid reflux. As I stated many times before, not all retroversions cause an issue, but certain degrees of retroversion can cause several symptoms or lead to dysfunctions. It’s all connected!
