The uterus moves in many ways and requires movement for fertility function, getting the sperm to where it needs to go, pushing a baby out, for menstrual health, and controlling menstrual blood flow. That’s where abdominal fertility massage, specifically uterine or womb massage and Visceral Manipulation™ can help with uterine peristalsis.

In my Dance Of The Uteri article, I wrote about the different ways a uterus moves…

  • mobility from extrinsic forces like breath, abdominal massage, movement of other organs, walking, and twisting.
  • motility intrinsic movement that all organs have
  • and peristalsis

As Dr. Hughey, MD demonstrated in the video below via ultrasound.

These contractions he referred to are actually peristalsis of the womb controlled by the endocrine system and the dominant follicle! This movement of the womb gets the sperm to the fallopian tube in less than 1 minute. Scientists have demonstrated this in the study titled, The dynamics of rapid sperm transport through the female genital tract: evidence from vaginal sonography of uterine peristalsis and hysterosalpingoscintigraphy

Fertility Massage

As Dr. Hughey has pointed out, sometimes the uterine contractions can be disorganized and he suggested this could be one cause of infertility. I think it would be interesting to see the effects of uterine massage on the disorganized pattern of contractions. Think about how a muscle spasm is soothed when blood flow is normalized through massage. I’m guessing since abdominal or uterine massage helps with blood, lymph, nerve, and energy flow, it would help the womb function properly. All organs require an unrestricted flow for proper physiological function. Abdominal massage, womb or uterine massage, as well as Visceral Manipulation™ work by doing just that.
